Pre assessment tools for teachers

If all of our students have a topic or skill mastered then we can skip that lesson. If only a couple of students have a problem, then we can individualize our instruction to bring them up to speed. If the majority of students are struggling with the information then we can continue with our lesson.

This can be done quickly in one of two ways in Naiku. First, you can simply conduct a Quick Question session to poll your students. This will give you a quick and informal way to check for understanding before you start the lesson. Second, you can prepare a longer pre-test for your students.

On your pre-test, be sure that each question is aligned to a standard or learning target. Pre-assessments help measure true learning. By comparing pre-assessments and summative assessments, we are able to see what our students actually learned from the lessons that we developed. Laminate the square and then explain how it works to the kids. As you finish assessing a child, you give him or her the colorful square with your picture on it.

Tell that child to give the square to the next child on your assessment list. Teach the children that as soon as they receive the square with your picture they should come to you immediately. Use a digital assessment tool like ESGI on your computer, tablet, or smartphone to assess your students.

It speeds up the assessment process, making it quick and easy to get your assessments done. Did you know that ESGI saves teachers about hours a year? What could you do if you had 67 extra days to teach your students? Closet Light : Closet lights, or push lights are a common fixture at most dollar stores. These little lights are battery operated and can be found in many different fun shapes like stars, moons, and smiley faces.

As each student comes over to be tested, invite them to push the light to turn it on. Also invite the child to turn it off when they leave too. For this, they need assessment tools. These allow teachers to measure how well students have understood a topic. One of the most basic tools is worksheets. Teachers can ask students to complete worksheets, and how well the worksheet is completed is an indication of how well the students have understood the lesson.

With this feedback, teachers can review the lesson and the teaching methodology used. The teacher may decide that some teaching methods were more effective than others, and based on this conclusion mold future lesson plans.

These important tools allow both teachers and students to improve their performances. Traditionally, teachers used paper and pencil tests to assess student mastery of a given concept. In a multiple-choice question, students may pick the right answer out of luck. Similarly, in a math test, a student may pick the wrong answer due to an error in calculation and not because of incomplete understanding of the concept. These drawbacks call for better assessment methods.
