But this is how I solved the problem myself, HP website no help. You can get network settings by pressing and holding the X button on the printer.

Then I ran Windows printer set-up add a printer. Then I used the IP address printed from the printer settings X. The system detected a printer then I selected HP Deskjet c, as not one for which was the one recommended for Windows 7 and hey presto the printer sparked into life!
